Jaguar Adds Performance Packages to XJ
Shoppers considering Jaguar's luxurious XJ sedan will soon have two sporty new performance packages to choose from. The automaker recently announced the availability of the optional "Speed Pack" and "Sport & Speed Pack," which improve the sedan's performance and offer subtle upgrades to its exterior and interior.
According to Jaguar, the Speed Pack is only available on the high-performance XJ and XJL Supersport models, which feature a 510-horsepower supercharged 5.0-liter V8. While the performance package doesn't offer any drastic changes under the Supersport's hood, it does remove the sedan's 155 mph speed limiter, setting a new top speed at a wild 174 miles per hour.
But the biggest upgrades from the Speed Pack come to the XJ's exterior. In front, a splitter is added to help improve the sedan's aerodynamics, while a spoiler is added in back to add to its sporty look. Other exterior upgrades include gloss black accents, red-painted brake calipers, and a choice of unique 20-inch "Venom" or "Matavia" wheels. The Speed Pack also upgrades the sedan's interior with a unique Jet Black color scheme featuring red contrast stitching.
XJ and XJL Supercharged models, which feature a 470-horsepower version of the same supercharged V8, gain the optional Speed & Sport Pack instead. While exterior upgrades and an increased top speed are shared between the two performance packages, the Speed & Sport Pack adds a suede headliner, a bright metal pedal kit and sporty 18-way power front seats with active side bolsters and ventilation - all standard on the XJ Supersport - plus unique black and white interior coloring.
"The XJ is much more than a limousine," said Ian Callum, Jaguar's design director. "Its power and potential mean it can out-perform many so-called sports cars. The new Sport and Speed Packs allow customers to enhance that sporting dynamism even further and create an XJ that looks as good as it drives."
