  • Three Jeep Wrangler concepts
  • Two Cherokee-based concepts
  • Trail Warrior concept based on Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel

Jeep will once again introduce new concept vehicles based on current models at its annual off-road driving festival, the Moab Easter Jeep Safari. Modified for off-road performance and style, the six concepts include three concepts based on the Jeep Wrangler, two based on the all-new Jeep Cherokee and a diesel-powered Grand Cherokee concept.

The 2014 event marks the 48th year for the Moab Easter Jeep Safari, a 9-day event that begins April 12 in Moab, Utah. Special off-road concepts from Jeep have been a part of the gathering since 2002. They allow the automaker to show off aftermarket parts available from Mopar and Jeep Performance Parts, which are fitted to the concept vehicles.

The Wrangler Level Red, for example, includes a 2-inch lift kit, Dana 44 axles and a Rock-Trac transfer case, all by Jeep Performance Parts. The concept's prototype beadlock wheels are fitted with 35-in tires. Both the tires and the Level Red's half-door kit are available through Mopar.

Based on the 4-door Wrangler Unlimited, the bright orange Wrangler MOJO uses the same lift, axles and transfer case as the Level Red but is instead fitted with 37-in off-road tires. It also includes prototype LED headlights and fog lights, plus an interior designed for easy cleaning.

The Wrangler Maximum Performance is also based on the Wrangler Unlimited, this time with a hardtop. Built for even more trail capability, the Maximum Performance concept includes a prototype 4-in lift kit, electric-locking Dana 60 axles and a Rock-Trac transfer case. Up front, its prototype front bumper by Jeep Performance Parts includes a beefy stinger bar.

For the first time, Jeep will include concepts based on the all-new Cherokee. Among them are the cargo-ready Cherokee Adventurer and the Cherokee Dakar, which Jeep calls "the most extreme Cherokee ever." The latter includes underbody rock rails and skid plates, along with specially modified fenders to house big, 33-in off-road tires.

Rounding out the six concepts is a vehicle based on the Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel. Called Trail Warrior, it includes a rooftop cargo basket, tow hooks and rock rails from Jeep Performance Parts and a host of interior and exterior design modifications.

Jeep clearly takes off-road driving seriously, as do many of the brand's loyal enthusiasts. The Moab Easter Jeep Safari gives them a chance to enjoy time on the trails while also checking out the latest tricks from other Jeep drivers and from the automaker itself.

What it means to you: Interested in a Jeep Wrangler, Cherokee or Grand Cherokee but want more capability? Many of the parts used to modify these Jeep concepts are available from Mopar and Jeep Performance Parts.
