  • 6 of the 10 vehicles were from domestic automakers
  • Recently updated Chrysler 300 sedan topped the list
  • KBB editors focused on ride quality, seat comfort and interior size

Car shoppers in the market for a comfortable new car that will also fit in their budget should set their sights on American brands. That's the latest from automotive analytics firm Kelley Blue Book, whose new list of the ten most comfortable new cars under $30,000 includes six vehicles from domestic automakers.

Kelley Blue Book says its editors considered ride quality, seat comfort and interior size when they compiled the list. First place went to the full-size Chrysler 300, while the recently redesigned Chevrolet Malibu finished second. Other domestic vehicles earning spots on the list included the Buick Regal in sixth place, Buick Verano in eighth, Chevrolet Cruze in ninth and the Ford Taurus, which took the tenth spot.

With motorists spending an ever-increasing amount of time behind the wheel between commuting, carpooling or running various errands, Kelley Blue Book says the list is especially relevant for today's drivers. KBB's editors also say the list proves that car shoppers don't have to spend an arm and a leg to get a comfortable car.

"Car shoppers don't have to buy a luxury car to get a very well-equipped, comfortable ride these days," said Jack Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com. "Our kbb.com list of the 10 most comfortable new cars under $30,000 offers shoppers insight into what we think are the most comfortable, affordable rides worthy of their consideration."

In addition to the six domestic vehicles honored by Kelley Blue Book, the list also included vehicles from German and Japanese automakers. Volkswagen's redesigned Passat finished third, with KBB lauding the sedan for its supple ride and impressive handling, while the Subaru Legacy, Honda Odyssey and Toyota Camry finished fourth, fifth and seventh respectively.

Kelley Blue Book's decision to name the Chrysler 300 as the most comfortable car under $30,000 is hardly surprising considering the high praise that the restyled sedan received from automotive journalists. Base-level models, which feature the automaker's new 292-horsepower "Pentastar" V6 and fuel economy ratings as high as 31 miles per gallon in highway driving, start around $28,500.
