  • Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept previewed ahead of New York
  • Discovery Vision features rounded shape, high-tech interior
  • The concept SUV will likely see production as a replacement for the LR4

A new concept vehicle from Land Rover is coming to this year's New York Auto Show. That's the latest from the automaker, which recently released a video showing off the Discovery Vision Concept ahead of the SUV's debut later this month in New York.

While Land Rover hasn't released many details about the upcoming Discovery Vision Concept, the video gives us a glimpse into what the SUV might look like. The profile, for instance, is more rounded than most of Land Rover's current lineup, suggesting that the brand might ditch its well-known blocky shape for a more streamlined look.

Inside, technology seems to be at the forefront of Land Rover's latest concept vehicle. The Discovery Vision Concept boasts a huge center-mounted touchscreen, shown in the video with the words "The New Age of Discovery." Also included is Land Rover's futuristic rising shift knob, which is currently featured on several of the brand's cars.

So will the Discovery Vision Concept see production? We wouldn't be surprised if an SUV based on the concept car replaces the Land Rover LR4, albeit with a few changes from the model that we'll see in New York. That's because the LR4 is starting to show its age: Though it's only been on sale since 2010, the LR4 is heavily based on its predecessor, the LR3, which came out for the 2005 model year.

The concept car also signals Land Rover's willingness to bring back the Discovery model name. The original Land Rover Discovery made its debut in 1994 and garnered legions of fans before Land Rover switched to its LR naming scheme in 2005.

We'll have more information about the Discovery Vision Concept when it debuts later this month at the New York Auto Show.

What it means to you: The Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept will likely preview the next generation of Land Rover design.
