An all-new Nissan Murano is on its way. That's the latest from Nissan, which says it will pull the cover off a fully redesigned version of the bold-looking midsize crossover at this year's New York Auto Show in April.
While Nissan hasn't announced many details on the upcoming Murano, we're eager to see the brand's plans for the crossover. Although the current Murano is showing its age, earlier models featured unique styling that was far different from the SUV norm.
What we do know is that the next-generation Murano will ride on the same chassis as the Altima and Pathfinder, and that means it'll keep its car-based crossover roots. We also expect the Murano to retain a 2-row seating configuration as opposed to the 3-row design of the compact Nissan Rogue and midsize Nissan Pathfinder stablemates.
While Nissan hasn't shown photos of the upcoming Murano, the brand gave us a teaser with the Resonance, a concept car revealed last year at the Detroit Auto Show. The gold-colored crossover featured unique lines and futuristic touches, both inside and out. We were especially taken with the lack of an exterior D-pillar and the wild center-stack controls.
Under the 2015 Murano's hood, we expect to see a return of the current Murano's 3.5-liter V6, which is the same engine that has powered the crossover since its 2003 debut. A hybrid could also join the fray, which isn't surprising given the auto industry's recent focus on fuel efficiency. For the same reason, we wouldn't rule out the possibility of an available 4-cylinder engine.
If you're interested in the new Murano, you won't have to wait long to get more details. We expect to see it live in New York, with sales beginning later this summer or early in the fall.
What it means to you: The redesigned 2015 Nissan Murano will undoubtedly give the midsize crossover world a new contender with an exciting appearance.
