Kissing cousins with a different appeal.
by Brenda Priddy
While the new Kia Sephia was caught recently in Korea, this 2002 Hyundai Sonata was spotted in the state of Nevada while undergoing hot weather testing.
Although the new Sonata is a close cousin (sharing platform and powertrain) to the recently introduced Kia Optima, they're far from twins. The squares and straight lines of the Optima are replaced by rounded and more elegant styling on the Sonata. An almost-Jaguar-looking hood and European influenced headlamps help to distinguish the two brands. The casual observer may not even realize they're related.
Sources tell us the new Sonata will likely be powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 at its introduction in mid-2001.
