Toyota FJ Cruiser Gets New Trail Teams Edition
Serious off-roaders, take note: the Trail Teams edition of the Toyota FJ Cruiser is back for 2012. Finished exclusively in Toyota's Radiant Red paint, the 2012 FJ Cruiser Trail Teams special edition picks up right where last year's Army Green model left off.
Toyota says the latest Trail Teams model is fitted with all the usual gear you'd expect for a major off-road adventure. That includes Bilstein shocks, a rear differential lock, Toyota's A-TRAC traction control system, Toyota Racing Development wheels fitted to BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires, rock rails and all-important skid plates for the engine, fuel tank and transfer case. The off-roader's 270-horsepower 4.0-liter V6 will also feature a pre-air cleaner designed to trap dirt before it enters the engine.
But not all the modifications to the Trail Teams FJ Cruiser are beneath the skin. On the outside, the go-anywhere special-edition also includes a black-painted front grille, black door handles and bumpers, and roof-mounted off-road lights. Inside, revisions like water-resistant seats and a rubber floor and rear deck make the SUV's interior easier to hose down after getting dirty.
The FJ Cruiser Trail Teams special edition also adds an array of standard features including a driver-focused multi-information display, remote keyless entry, cruise control, several interior power outlets and a back-up camera integrated into the rearview mirror - all of which are optional on the regular FJ Cruiser.
On sale since 2008, the Trail Teams FJ Cruiser is aimed specifically at FJ Cruiser buyers who want to take their vehicles deep off road. While Toyota has not announced pricing for the 2012 Trail Teams model, previous editions have carried a roughly $5,000 premium over the FJ Cruiser's $26,000 base price.
