TRD Pro Models Priced: 2015 Toyota Tacoma and 2015 Toyota 4Runner
- Toyota's TRD Pro treatment turns existing Toyota trucks into hardcore off-road machines
- TRD-modified 2015 Tacoma launches in August, with 4Runner and Tundra models coming soon
- Tacoma will start at $35,525; 4Runner at $41,110
Toyota has announced pricing for two of its three TRD Pro factory off-roaders for the 2015 model year. The toughened-up Tacoma starts at $35,525 with the extended cab and 6-speed manual transmission, topping out at $37,415 with the double cab and 5-speed automatic. It hits dealerships in mid-August 2014. The 4Runner, which arrives in September, comes only with the automatic and will cost you $41,110. Both models will carry a destination fee of $885. Pricing for the Tundra TRD Pro has not been announced, but Toyota says to expect the truck's debut sometime this fall.
Although Toyota has long offered TRD accessories on its trucks and SUVs, the Pro models are the first to be sold as separate trim levels with complete off-road preparation. All three Pros feature TRD Bilstein shocks with remote rear reservoirs (for increased oil capacity and suspension travel) as well as TRD-spec front springs, while aesthetic upgrades, include an exclusive heritage front grille with TOYOTA in block caps, black alloy wheels and a TRD shift knob.
The Tacoma, sometimes referred to in Toyota's literature as the "Macho Taco," adds 16-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, a 1.75-in front-suspension lift, decreased spring rates and a sporty TRD exhaust. The 4Runner, meanwhile, boasts 17-in Nitto Terra Grappler tires, a 1-in front lift, a front skid plate, and interior luxuries such as touchscreen audio with smartphone integration, red seat stitching, heated power front seats and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink technology.
As for the Tundra, its modifications are more radical in order to compete with Ford's formerly peerless SVT Raptor. Expect a commensurately higher price, though it should be comfortably less than $50,000.
What it means to you: Toyota trucks are renowned the world over for their reliable performance, and now you can get purpose-built off-roaders straight from the factory, with the same warranty protection as any Toyota.
