Volvo Lineup: 2014 Geneva Auto Show
- S60, S80, XC60, XC70 get facelifts
- S60, XC60 receive updated interiors
- Revised Volvos go on sale this year
Volvo used the 2014 Geneva Auto Show to release updated 2014 versions of several models in its current lineup. The brand's S60 and S80 sedans received revisions, as did the XC60 and XC70 crossovers. A new infotainment system also debuted.
The biggest news is the arrival of Volvo's new infotainment system, which is newly optional across the brand's model range. Dubbed Sensus, the system uses a seven-inch touchscreen display that can even be operated with winter gloves. According to Volvo, drivers who connect a 3G or 4G phone can use the system to browse the Internet - provided, of course, they're not driving. Like other infotainment systems, Sensus also provides streaming audio through Internet music sites like Pandora.
After Sensus, the popular 2014 Volvo XC60 crossover gets the most revisions. The compact SUV gets a totally new front end, including an updated hood, revised grille and new front lights. An updated interior includes a new headliner and metal frames around the air vents. And the XC60 adds Volvo's torque-vectoring system, Corner Control, to its standard equipment list.
The 2014 Volvo S60 also sees major changes for the new model year. The biggest is a major facelift to the sedan's front end, which includes a new grille and daytime running lights. The S60 also offers a new headliner and metal frames around the air vents. And Volvo says the sedan will include new interior surfaces and colors for 2014.
The 2014 Volvo S80 sedan and XC70 wagon are also updated, primarily with exterior revisions. The S80 adds a new front and rear bumper. The XC70 boasts a new front grille, redesigned taillights and updated daytime running lights.
Although Volvo has not yet announced when the 2014 models go on sale, we expect to see them later this year. Notably absent from the brand's list of revised models is the XC90 crossover. That's because the midsize XC90 will likely be fully redesigned later this year or early in 2014.
What it means to you: Volvo's revisions aren't substantial, but you may be able to use them to negotiate a deal on a 2012 or 2013 model.
