Cadillac Recalls 2011 SRX for Airbag Issue
According to a release from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem comes from a fault with the software in the SRX's airbags.
The SRX, like most modern cars, has a weight sensor in the passenger side front seat. If nobody is sitting in the seat, the car will automatically disable the airbags that are designed to protect that passenger.
The problem, according to the NHTSA, is that when the system shuts off the front impact airbag, the passenger side roof rail airbag is disabled as well. The roof rail airbag runs the length of the car and is intended to protect the back seat passenger as well as the person riding up front.
With the roof rail airbag disabled, a person in the back seat has a higher risk of becoming injured during a rollover or accident.
The current SRX went on sale in 2010, but the recall only applies to 2011 models.

Owners of affected SRX vehicles will be able to set an appointment with a local Cadillac dealer who will update the airbag software free of charge.
Despite this recall, the SRX is a very good pick for safety conscious car buyers. The 2011 model earned the title of "Top Safety Pick" by the International Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) based on its excellent impact and rollover protection.
