2011 Subaru Outback

Subaru is recalling nearly 70,000 Legacy and Outback cars over an issue with moonroof.

According to a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the moonroof glass on the 2011 model year Legacy and Outback has a tendency to come loose or detach from the car completely.

The detached glass could potentially present a hazard for other drivers on the road.

The issue, according to the NHTSA, is caused by the adhesive used to mount the moonroof glass inside the car. The report states that it was either applied improperly or insufficiently at the Subaru factory during installation.

Subaru will notify owners of the affected vehicles soon, and the repairs are set to begin in October. Subaru dealers will be able to inspect the car's adhesives and if a problem is found, mechanics will replace the glass or adhesive free of charge.

Concerned Outback and Legacy owners can call Subaru directly (1-800-782-2783) to schedule an appointment for the repairs.

This is the second recall for the late model Legacy and Outback recently. Just last month the 2010-2011 cars were recalled over an issue with the windshield wiper motors. That recall affected over 195,000 cars.

In that case, the plastic covering for the wiper motors were the incorrect size and could cause the motors to overheat. According to the NHTSA, the heat could melt the plastic, and in some cases the covering could even catch on fire. Subaru has started replacing the plastic casings free of charge.

The Legacy and Outback were completely redesigned for the 2010 model year and it's not terribly uncommon for brand new designs to have some teething issues in the first couple of years on the road.
