  • Faulty side airbags to blame
  • Only 381 units affected
  • Recall starts in April

If you bought a Subaru Outback or Legacy last December, you may want to pencil in some time to go see your dealer on your calendar. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for any Legacys or Outbacks manufactured from December 1 through December 23 of last year.

At the heart of this recall is the side curtain airbags, which the NHTSA claims were filled with the wrong mixture of propellant. In the unfortunate event of the airbags having to deploy, this means the airbags would not inflate enough, putting the occupants at risk of injury.

The recall doesn't start until April, but Subaru will contact you if your car is affected. If it is, your dealer will replace the entire assembly on both sides free of charge. Customers with any further questions are asked to call Subaru at 1-800-782-2783 for more information.

What it means to you: With such a small manufacturing window, there's a slim chance you're part of this recall, but if your car was built last December, be ready to bring it into the dealer.
