  • NFL running back Ray Rice owned this G500
  • He added stereo, headrest screens
  • Available at Toy Barn in Dublin, Ohio

With its tall stature and boxy styling, the Mercedes G500 definitely stands out on the road. But this 2002 model was taken a step further by its previous owner, Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, who added an impressive array of in-car entertainment technology to the flashy ride. Now it's for sale on AutoTrader.com at the Toy Barn in Dublin, Ohio.

According to Justin, the Toy Barn's general manager, Rice was the SUV's most recent owner. The running back bought the then-6-year-old G500 from Mercedes-Benz of Silver Spring, Md., in June 2008 -- just two months after getting drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2008 NFL draft. And that, says Justin, is when Rice began making changes.

"He put in a new sound system, so it has two huge speakers in the back," said Justin, adding that Rice upgraded the SUV's navigation system, ditching its outdated 2002-era maps for brand new touchscreen technology. "He also put speakers in all the headrests, front and back. It has no third row, but I guess that's good for tailgating."

Indeed, with its huge speakers and headrest-mounted TV screens, Ray Rice's G500 would be a fantastic choice for tailgating at a sporting event. And it's unlikely that tailgaters will forget what kind of vehicle they're standing around thanks to another of Rice's modifications: A large Mercedes three-pointed star logo and the word G WAGON is emblazoned on the back of the SUV's rear seats just below the screens. Clearly, Rice wanted everyone to see -- or hear -- his unique ride.

But we don't blame the athlete for wanting to show off his flashy Mercedes. After working hard on the football field in high school and at Rutgers, he was drafted by the Ravens 55th overall in 2008. By 2009, he already made it to the Pro Bowl -- a feat he repeated in 2011. He unloaded the G500 soon after, trading it back to the same Mercedes dealer who sold it to him nearly four years earlier.

For SUV shoppers interested in a flashy ride -- or for Ravens fans who want a unique story to tell while they're tailgating at M&T Bank Stadium -- this G500 is available for $38,661. And with only 46,000 miles on the odometer, it almost certainly has a long life ahead of it.

What it means to you: It's hard to find a G500 that will attract more attention than this one, thanks to its entertainment system and unique celebrity ownership history.
