Of all the success stories Chrysler has experienced in recent years, one of the biggest has been the introduction of the Ram pickup for 1994. While the previous Dodge pickup barely attained one-tenth the annual sales of its rivals, the uniquely styled Ram has been embraced by truck buyers to such an extent that it rose to fourth in overall new-vehicle sales for the first half of 1996. Dodge hopes that sales will continue to increase with the addition of the Quad Cab body style, which provides two rear-access doors on Club Cab models. The Ram 1500 offers short- and regular-length versions, and at slightly over 6,000 pounds has the lightest gross weight ratings in the Ram line. It is the only Ram available with a V6, which is the standard engine for this pickup. A wide range of comfort and convenience options is available.

In January, 2001, Volvo unveiled a concept it called the Volvo Adventure Concept Car (ACC). The concept was designed to gauge customer reaction to a possible sport-utility vehicle coming from the Swedish automaker. Apparently the reaction was good, and with great fanfare, the XC90 debuted at the 2002 Detroit Auto Show. Closely matching the style and dimension of the ACC, the XC90 is built off the P2 large car platform which it shares with the Volvo flagship S80 sedan. The XC90 went on sale in the fall of 2002.
