1982 Mercedes 380SL - Hard/Soft Top Convertible! - 1982 Mercedes 380SL Information The Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107 automobiles were produced from 1971 through 1989, being the second longest single series ever produced by the Mercedes, after the G-Class. They were sold under the SL (R107) and SLC (C107) model names. The R107 replaced the W113 SL-Class in 1972 and was replaced by the R129 SL-Class in 1989. The SLC replaced the W111 Coup in 1971 and was replaced by the C126 S-class coupe in 1981. Contents [hide] 1 Model history 1.1 Models timeline 1.2 Technical data 2 North American models 2.1 Technical data 3 See Also 4 References 5 External links [edit] Model history The R107 took the chassis components of the mid size Mercedes-Benz W114 model and mated them to the larger engines from the S-Class (W116). The SL variant was a 2-seat convertible/roadster with standard soft top and hardtop and optional folding seats for the rear bench. The SLC (C107) derivative was a 2 door hardtop coupe with normal rear seats. The SLC is commonly referred to as an 'SL coupe', but in reality it was an S-class coupe, replacing the former saloon-based 280/300 SE coup in Mercedes lineup. The SLC was replaced earlier than the SL, in 1981, with a much larger model, the 380 SEC based on the new S class. Mercedes-Benz 560 SL (Japan) Volume production of the first R107 car, the 350 SL, started in April, 1971 alongside the last of the W113 cars; the 350 SLC followed in October. Sales in North America began in 1972, and cars wore the name 350 SL, but had a larger 4.5L V8 (and were renamed 450 SL/SLC for model year 1973); the big V8 became available on other markets with the official introduction of the 450 SL/SLC on non-North American markets in March, 1973. US cars sold from 1972 through 1975 used the Bosch D Jetronic fuel injection system, an early electronic engine management system. From July, 1974 both SL and SLC

SILVER 2002 BMW M3 - DINAN S2! WOW!! - Dinan S2-M3 Can the brilliant M3 be made even better? November 2003 BY LARRY WEBSTER PHOTOGRAPHY BY JIM CAIOZZO Why would anyone acquire a car that already had been thoroughly modified by one of the best performance-car companies in the world and then modify it again? That's the question we asked Steve Dinan, the well-known American tuner, when he came by our sweatshop and dropped off his latest car, a modified BMW M3 he's dubbed the S2-M3. Simple, says he: Folks who want to go fast start with the fastest car they can get and then come to me to make it go even faster. For BMW fans, the quickest model is the $48,195 333-hp M3, a legendary car that's always on our 10Best list. It's so good that in 1997 we named it the Best-Handling Car, period-money no object. It's hard to imagine anyone even trying to improve on the M3, but Dinan says his $17,798 package of engine and suspension mods does indeed do just that. This is not a new experience for us. We had the same doubts last year when he dropped off a reworked M5, but sure enough, we did like it better than the stock car. Dinan acknowledges the inherent dangers of such ventures and is well aware that in stock trim the M3's 333-hp, 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine, for example, is already highly tuned, and there aren't a lot of inexpensive things he can do to significantly increase horsepower. That's why the list of new power parts has just three items on it: an airbox, an airflow meter, and a muffler. The airbox is larger than the stock unit and also has a snorkel that inhales cold air from the area between the top of the front grille and the hood. In addition to the less restrictive airflow meter, the package includes the relocation of the intake-air-temperature sensor so it's closer to the six throttle bodies, a move Dinan says provides the engine computer with more accurate intake-air-temperature readin

1999 Porsche Carrera Cabrio - Little known fact: The original Porsche 911 Cabriolet was kept under wraps at Weissach until New Year's Day, 1981, remaining a secret until Peter W. Schutz was installed as the new CEO. The Cabriolet-indeed all developments of the 911-were taboo under the old regime, which firmly believed that the 928 was the key to Porsche's future. What a wonderful thing, hindsight! Today, it's difficult to imagine Porsche being without a softtop version of the 911, especially one as slick as the just-released Carrera Cabriolet. We got our first taste of the new open-air 911 variant on the wide-open roads of southern Spain, between Seville and the Mediterranean. The Cabriolet is a mechanical clone of the Coupe, which means it numbers among its lengthy roster of standards the same wonderful 3.4-liter/296-horsepower SOHC flat-six engine, twisty taming MacPherson strut/multilink suspension, and healthy 17-inch wheels/tires. With the six-speed manual gearbox, the '99 Cabriolet commands $74,460, while the Tiptronic-equipped version goes for $77,880, both plus $765 in destination charges. Given that those figures also include a handsome bolt-on aluminum hardtop, sticker to sticker, the new Cabrio actually costs less than a comparably equipped version of its '98 counterpart. Fully lined and insulated, the Cabriolet's new softtop is most capably abetted by the car's first-rate heating/air-conditioning package. The basic development work was entrusted to Car Top Systems (CTS), a company established jointly by Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. CTS also provides the articulation hardware for the Boxster and the Mercedes SLK. In Europe, the 911 system is the first that can be operated remotely by an infrared signal from the key fob; however, U.S. buyers will only be able to activate a conventional power top mechanism from inside the vehicle. Score one more for the product liability lawyers. Safety is another concern with any op

1991 Mercedes Benz 560 SEC - Rare! - Overall review: The 1991 SECs were the last hand made production cars Mercedes Benz ever built. The 126 SECs are made to be driven. Unlike most high dollar exotics, the SECs have plenty of room, and can be worked on by most mechanics. With proper care and maintenance, an SEC will go 300,000 without a major overhaul. With a 1991 sticker price of $85,850, (you could buy two 1991 Corvettes for less) the SEC was not for everyone. Royals, celebrities, athletes, doctors and high priced lawyers were the target market. Everything about the SEC oozes quality and style. Princess Diana's favorite car was her 126 SEC. Today you will find SECs ranging in price from $1,500 to $25,000
