A 4.4 liter V-8 engine is a popular choice on the 2012 BMW 7 Series. Generating 400 horsepower by itself, the BMW ActiveHybrid7 model marries the engine with an electric motor for a combined 455 horsepower. A 544 horsepower V-12 engine is also available with the 2012 BMW 7 Series on the 5.5 inch longer wheelbase version. All 2012 BMW 7 Series models fitted with a V-8 or V-12 powerplant operates through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Provided through BMW dealerships, an aftermarket tuner version from Alpina allows the 2012 7 Series to take on a strong performance identity. Alpina B7 is also available in the United States generating 500 horsepower from the 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine.
