For Sale on AutoTrader: Indy Racer's Audi TT
For sale right now on AutoTrader.com is a 2001 Audi TT convertible that belonged to IndyCar racer Jay Howard.
Like many current racing drivers, Howard got his start racing go-karts at a young age. He started racing at 7 and before long he was winning go karting championships in the United Kingdom. After graduating from go karts, Howard moved on to open wheel racing in the European Formula Renault 2000 series. After some moderate success overseas, he moved stateside where he climbed all the way to the fastest racing on the continent- IndyCar.
On the track, Howard pilots a 650 horsepower car at over 220 MPH. For his personal ride, the racing driver picked this 2001 Audi TT Quattro roadster.
The car is being sold out of G & L Auto Mart in Louisville, KY. According to Adam Oechslin who works at the dealer, the car was bought at an auction from one of the racing driver's friends.
It doesn't pack as much punch as the racing car, but the 1.8 liter turbocharged engine in the Audi is enough to propel the car from 0-60 in 6.2 seconds while still achieving 26 MPG on the highway.
Howard changed the car's looks by fitting it with a set of split five spoke Motegi wheels. The wheels are colored in the 'time attack' style, meaning they are black with a red accent on the lip of the rim.
2001 was the first year for the drop top version of Audi's TT, and there aren't really that many of the early cars around. Beyond the aftermarket wheels and the relative rarity, there is one more thing that sets this car apart from the others like it- Howard signed the dashboard before he sold it.
The dealer is asking just short of $11,000 for the car which compares really well with the estimated KBB value for a similar car.
