For Sale on AutoTrader: Red Robin Mercedes G500
It was designed to tackle rough terrains and punishing climates, but in recent years the go-anywhere Mercedes G500 morphed into a luxury SUV targeted towards some of the automaker's wealthiest customers. That's especially the case for this very unique bright red 2004 model, which was purpose-built for the head of casual dining chain Red Robin and is now for sale on AutoTrader.com.
Located at Lake Norman Imports just north of Charlotte, North Carolina, this 2004 G500 is likely the only one finished in its distinctive candy apple red paint. According to the dealer, that's because specifically the chief executive of Colorado-based burger chain Red Robin, who spent a small fortune to repaint the SUV once it arrived in the United States, ordered it.
"It wasn't a factory color," explained Chance Beam, owner of Lake Norman Imports, who noted the vehicle stayed with the original owner since it was sold new in early 2005. "They shipped it over here from Europe, then had it painted for the head of Red Robin. It was a $23,000 paint job."
Surprisingly, aside from the flashy red paint, this G500 appears almost completely as it did when it left the factory - except for the odometer, which just ticked over 110,000 miles. The luxurious SUV features a gray leather interior, woodgrain steering wheel, six-disc CD changer and a factory navigation system. Also included are dual-stage heated front seats, automatic climate control, a power sunroof and a robust four-wheel drive system that features a locking center differential.
While the striking bright red G500 may not be for everyone, we're certain it will have no trouble finding a home with a wealthy buyer looking for a reprieve from the same old silver, black and white luxury cars so frequently seen on the road today. And who knows? It may also score a free burger at one of Red Robin's 400 U.S. locations.
