For Sale on AutoTrader: The First 2010 Corvette ZR1
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is special. It's one of the most powerful cars ever to come out of the United States, and is capable of embarrassing European super cars for a fraction of the cost. But even among ZR1s, some cars stand out as something extra special.
For sale right now on Autotrader.com is the first-ever Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 built for 2010 (the second model year of this generation).
Dealers often get their used cars from manufacturers at wholesale car auctions. Steve Kennedy was looking though the list at a General Motors auction when a blue ZR1 caught his eye.
"I looked at the VIN and noticed that this was frame number one, so I said to my boss, 'We may want to keep our eye on this one.'" Kennedy said.
Kennedy said that Chevrolet had been using the car for promotional purposes. GM didn't reveal exactly what this car had been used for, but automakers often set aside some cars for use in auto shows, at events or as test cars for journalists.
Since this ZR1 has only never been registered, whoever buys it will actually be the car's first owner.
The ZR1 is the most advanced and fastest Corvette in the model's history. Under the hood lies a supercharged 638 horsepower 6.2-liter V8. The ZR1 employs lightweight materials like carbon fiber and magnesium to reduce weight. The net effect of so much power in a lightweight package is a 0 to 60 time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph.
The dealership isn't releasing its asking price for the ZR1, which is a fairly common practice for special cars like this. The current Kelley Blue Book price suggested retail price for similar models is $111,775 but it's tough to say what impact this ZR1's unique history may have on its asking price.
