An alert is a service that notifies a MyAutoTrader.com member when new or updated information is available based on your saved searches. For example, when a car is added to the MyAutoTrader.com site that matches your saved search criteria, we will send you an email. Visit the My Alerts page to set up an alert.

How do I set up an email alert?

If you have at least one saved search, follow the steps below to set up an alert:

Go to the My Alerts page.
Select the “Email me when…” checkbox in the “My Searches” section.
Select the desired frequency to receive alerts. Your alerts will be sent to you either daily or weekly, depending on your selection.
Click the “Save Changes” button.

If you are in the midst of saving a search, follow the steps below to set up an alert:

Name the search you want to save.
Select the "Email me when..." checkbox.
Select the desired frequency to receive alerts. Your alerts will be sent to you either daily or weekly, depending on your selection.
Click the "Save Changes" button.

Note: You only have to set up this alert once and it applies to all your saved searches. You need at least one saved search in order to set up an alert.

Where do I view the matches for my saved searches?

You can view your matches on the MyAutoTrader.com site or by email.

To view alerts on site, follow the steps below:

Go to the My Summary page.
View the “My Alerts at a glance” section.
Click the link under the Alerts section to view new matches for your saved searches.

To view alerts by email:

Click on the link provided in the email to view new matches for your saved searches.

How do I cancel my alerts?

To cancel your alerts on the My Alerts page, follow the steps below:

Go to the My Alerts page.
Uncheck the checkbox for the alert you wish to cancel.
Click the "Save Changes" button.

Note: If you cancel your membership with My AutoTrader.com, your alerts will automatically be canceled.

How do I sign up for or cancel my subscriptions?

Subscription information is sent by email and includes helping shopping tips, promotional messages and other useful information. To sign up for subscription emails, follow the steps below:

Go to the My Alerts page.
Select the “Send me promotional info…” checkbox in the “My Subscriptions” section.
Click the “Save Changes” button.

To cancel the subscription emails, follow the steps below:

Go to the My Alerts page.
Uncheck the “Send me promotional info…” checkbox in the “My Subscriptions” section.
Click the “Save Changes” button.

How do I sign up for or cancel the Special Offer Newsletter?

The Special Offer Newsletter gives you an instant look at money-saving deals in your area such as rebates, price reductions and special financing. To sign up for this email, follow the steps below:

Go to the My Alerts page.

Click the “Save Changes” button.

My Summary – This page gives you a quick glimpse of your searches, cars and alerts.
My Searches – This page lets you manage your saved searches. Rename, delete or modify your saved searches. You can also customize your search to view results based on the timeframe selected.
My Cars – This page lets you keep track of your saved cars. Rename, delete, or compare your cars. Or go directly to the car details page to get additional information.
My Profile – This page lets you update your personal information, email address, preferences and more. Be sure to save your settings when you are finished updating your profile.
My Alerts – This page lets you set up your alerts and sign up for subscription information. Set your frequency to receive alert emails with new matches for your saved searches.

Can I rename a saved car or search?

Yes, you're allowed to change your mind! Visit My Cars or My Searches and find the item you want to rename. Click the "Rename" link directly under the saved name.

How do I delete a car or search from my saved list?

Visit My Cars or My Searches and find the item you want to remove. Click the "Delete" link in the saved name column. We'll ask if you're sure you want to delete that item. Click "Delete" to continue.

Is there a quick way to go directly to a saved car's details page?

Actually, you can quickly access the full listing from My Summary and My Cars. (Access both pages from My AutoTrader.com at the top right of every page.) Click the vehicle make link or photo to go to the details page.

How do I compare my saved cars side by side?

On My Cars page, click the checkbox located above the vehicle photo for any three cars you want to compare. Then click the "Compare" button. You can use the dropdown lists on the next page to change your saved car selections.

How do I run a saved search to view my matches?

You control how results are displayed on the My Searches page.

You can select from the following:
- Results since your last search
- Results within the last day
- Results within the last week
- All results
Click "Go."

The results display according to the preference you've selected. Go to the My Alerts page if you want to receive email alerts with new matches for your saved searches.

Can I search for new results that have posted since my last search?

Yes. On the My Searches page, select the "Since last searched" option in the dropdown menu and click the "Go" button. This dropdown menu also allows you to view all search results, results within the last day and results within the last week.

Can I modify my saved searches?

Absolutely! Once you modify your saved searches, you have the option to either save your changes as a new search or simply save over your current search to update it. Follow the steps below:

Locate the search you want to modify in My Searches.
Click "Modify Search Criteria" to access the search form.
Change your search criteria and click "Search AutoTrader.com."
Review search results - if you like what you get, click "Save Changes" or "Save as a New Search" at top.

You can set up alerts based on your saved searches. Visit My Alerts page to sign up and get emails with new matches for your saved searches.

What does it mean when a saved car becomes an inactive listing?

The actual listing is no longer posted on AutoTrader.com, which happens for many reasons:

The seller sold the car.
The car was traded to another dealership.
The listing subscription on the car ended.
The seller decided not to sell the car.

However, if you really like this car, we suggest you wait a couple of days before deleting it to see if the listing is renewed. You can always search our listings for similar cars (click the "Search for similar cars" link right on the inactive listing).

How do I save a search?: For starters, you'll have to create a new search by selecting the criteria you want most in a car. Click "Search AutoTrader.com" and view the results. If you like what you get, click "Save Search Criteria" at the top of the page. Next, name your search criteria for easy organizing.

Why do I have to name a car or search before I save it?: If you choose a descriptive name that's meaningful, you're more likely to remember it later. That way, you can easily identify and quickly sort your saved searches or cars in a list.

Do you have any tips on naming a saved car or search?: The most important tip is to choose a name that's descriptive. For example, saving several cars with the same or similar year, make and model may not be distinctive enough. Try taking note of a special feature of a car or search you're saving.

Also, cut out small words like "and" and "with." Keep in mind that although we allow 50 characters, some special features such as dropdown lists require that we truncate the names. So use the space wisely!
