Porsche has been quite successful in the past few years especially with the latest-generation 911. The automaker will look to continue its success with the Japanese debut of the 911 GT2 and also the Cayenne GTS SUV.
Sitting on a spinning platform on the rectangular stage, the dark grayish-looking 911 GT2 is highlighted by a low-slung spoiler lip at the front and the rear and a titanium exhaust in the back. The chassis is based on the 911 GT3 while the entire set-up is approximately one-inch lower and firmer than on the 911 Carrera.
Called as the "fastest and most powerful Porsche 911," the GT2 is powered by a 3.6-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder with bi-turbo technology. The power unit of the GT2 is based on the flat-six in the 911 Turbo but the extra power comes from two exhaust gas turbochargers with an enlarged compressor wheel and flow-optimized turbine housing.
This rear-wheel-drive sports car produces 530 bhp at 6500 rpm and 501 lb-ft of torque from 2200 to 4500 rpm. To put it in perspective, it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 204 mph. At a weight of 3,175 lbs., the GT2 gets approximately 18.83 mpg, which is pretty good for its class.
Cayenne GTS
Sharing some of the spotlight with the 911 GT2 is the 4.8-liter V8 Cayenne GTS SUV. With the upgraded intake system, the all-wheel-drive Cayenne GTS produces 405 bhp and 369 lb-ft of torque with the six-speed transmission.
The front and rear look just like the Cayenne Turbo but it sits lower and the suspension has been specially developed. But the future of the SUV may be its hybrid alternative - the Cayenne Hybrid, which gets approximately 26.5 mpg with the 3.6-liter gas engine.
