Daihatsu has adopted the slogan "Innovation for Tomorrow" on the company's 100th anniversary with a look back to its foundations as a car producer of small efficient vehicles with minimal environmental impact. To follow the theme of individuality at the Tokyo Motor Show, Daihatsu showcased a variety of unique concept vehicles.
The Mud Master-C is a small, tough transporter that is compact and lightweight with body-on-frame construction for durability and cargo capability. Outfitted as a mountain bike support vehicle, Mud Master-C was co-developed with Raita Suzuki, a leading professional cyclist. With large gull wing doors on three sides, the Mud Master-C offers excellent convenience for loading cargo and a hub reduction system achieves exceptional ride height and approach angles.
On the other end of the spectrum, the OFC-1 is a small two-seat roadster with a sleek teardrop shape and a power retractable top that has a glass roof for an open feeling even when closed. The glass panel can change from being transparent to opaque by a switch that controls the integrated LCD sunshade technology.
Daihatsu also showed the New Tanto concept that is planned for production to replace the popular Tanto small family vehicle. Compared to the Tanto, this concept will be roomier, more convenient and more fun. For easier access to the front or rear seats, the New Tanto has a wider entrance and offers the first application of no pillar between the left power sliding door and front passenger door in a mini vehicle.
