A Tiny Glimpse into the Future

Honda has unveiled a concept car so tiny, it can only be called the P-Nut. Like the nutty treat, there's room for one nut in the front and two in the back. And the two back seats have a surprising amount of legroom since the drivers' seat is positioned squarely in the center, straddling the back seat passengers. With a smaller footprint than the Smart Car, this "urban transport," is designed for maximum maneuverability in tight urban environments -- think Manhattan or Tokyo.

Created by the design team in Honda Research and Development in Torrance, CA, the P-Nut takes the space just under the back seats for engine room - tiny engines powered by a conventional small displacement internal combustion engine, a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, or battery-electric powertrain. The rear seats fold up, kind of like a toilet seat, to provide needed cargo space for transporting your urban "stuff."

Another futuristic feature is a squarely shaped windshield that transforms into a transparent heads-up display for the navigation system and a back-up camera.

Will this tiny driver ever see a production line? Probably not, but in today's ever-changing automotive environment, it's nice to see a company like Honda getting creative and having a little fun in small spaces.
