Although the market for environmentally friendly cars remains hot, several automakers are offering great deals on "green" cars to help sway buyers into choosing their vehicle over the competition. We've rounded up several of the best offers below, giving a leg up to car shoppers looking to purchase an earth-saving new car throughout May.
Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid
Chevrolet's full-size Tahoe Hybrid may not be the most fuel efficient vehicle on the market, but with an EPA-rated 20 miles per gallon in the city and 23 mpg in highway driving, it is by far the greenest large SUV on the road. Through the end of May, Chevrolet is offering the 2012 Tahoe Hybrid with two special offers designed to boost its appeal to SUV buyers: one offers zero percent interest for up to 60 months, while the other advertises $2,000 cash back. If that's not enough to convince you to choose a Tahoe Hybrid, carefully check your local dealer lots: Chevrolet is also offering $4,500 cash back and zero percent interest for 72 months on all 2011 Tahoe Hybrid models left at dealerships.
Sales of Chevrolet's plug-in hybrid Volt have been improving thanks in part to a recent incentive added to the hatchback. Offered in April and still available in May, the incentive touts interest rates as low as zero percent for up to 72 months for qualified buyers - an unbeatable deal on a newly launched, highly desirable car like the Volt. Unfortunately, last month's lease offer is off the table after the Volt's popularity jumped in April, with the automaker recording nearly 1,500 units sold - far greater than the 370 sales recorded by its main rival, the all-electric Nissan Leaf.
Want to look good while you're saving the planet? Fiat's cute new 500 is available with a host of offers throughout May that make the hatchback's already low base price of $16,200 including destination even more appealing. According to the automaker, shoppers looking to lease a new 500 can lock in a 42-month lease with nothing due at signing and monthly payments as low as $199. For buyers who would rather purchase their 500, FIAT is offering up to $1,500 cash back on its upscale 500 Lounge and 500 Gucci models, or $500 back on the basic 500 Pop and mid-level 500 Sport. Best of all, car shoppers who take advantage of the offers won't just be saving money - they'll be saving the planet, thanks to fuel economy ratings of more than 38 miles per gallon in highway driving with the hatchback's standard 5-speed manual transmission.
Ford Fusion Hybrid
Although Ford has been reluctant to advertise deals on its highly sought-after Fusion Hybrid, the automaker is finally beginning to offer several incentives on the environmentally-friendly sedan in the wake of a new model due out later this year. In May, Ford is offering $2,500 cash back to car shoppers looking to pay in full, while buyers interested in financing their Fusion Hybrid can get interest rates as low as zero percent for 60 months or 1.9 percent for up to 72 months. Both deals help make the Fusion Hybrid's already attractive base price of $29,570 including destination even more tempting for car buyers interested in something green.
Honda's miserly Civic is available throughout May with several special offers for environmentally friendly car shoppers, whether they're looking to lease or finance. According to Honda, qualified buyers looking to finance a 2012 Civic this month can get interest rates as low as 0.9 percent for 36 months or 1.9 percent for up to 60 months - a deal that even applies to the popular Civic Hybrid. For shoppers who would prefer to lease their Civic, Honda is offering a zero down lease on its base-level Civic LX sedan with monthly payments starting from just $220 - an offer that would save cash and help the environment.
What it means to you: There's need to pay full sticker price just because you're considering an environmentally friendly new car.
