Musicians listen up: Honda is giving you the chance to win a brand-new Civic through an exciting songwriting competition on Facebook. Announced Tuesday, the automaker's "Sounds of Civic" contest encourages its Facebook fans to submit original songs inspired by its all-new 2012 Civic, which went on sale earlier this month.
The contest, which is already underway, is accepting submissions through the Honda Civic's Facebook page until June 5. After that, the Civic's Facebook fans have until July 17 to vote on their favorite tune, at which point the top eight finalists – including one grand-prize winner – will be announced. While all eight finalists will receive $2,500 in music gear from Sam Ash Music Stories, only the overall winner will take home the new Civic.
"We've seen a high crossover of Civic fans and music lovers," said Steve Center, vice president of national marketing operations for American Honda. "And with the launch of the 2012 Honda Civic we saw a perfect opportunity to give our amazing fans a little bit of both."
To kick off the contest, Honda turned to popular YouTube musicians Maria Zouroudis, Julia Dales, Greg Holden, Madi Diaz, and hip-hop artist Free Will to write their own songs about the 2012 Civic. Their videos appear on the car's Facebook page, as well as on Honda's YouTube channel, as examples – and inspiration – for potential participants.
If you're interested in entering, the rules are simple. Honda says the first step is to write a theme song for one of its five Civic models – the sedan, coupe, Si, HF, or Hybrid – then navigate to the Civic's Facebook page, where the contest's details appear front and center. From there, you can upload your submission. The automaker encourages songwriters to tell friends about the contest once voting begins.
In addition to a brand-new 2012 Civic, the contest's grand prize also includes the opportunity to perform live on this year's Civic Tour, an annual concert series which showcases popular artists and draws publicity for the popular compact. While Honda has not yet announced headlining acts for this year's tour, previous stars have included Dashboard Confessional, Maroon 5, and Fall Out Boy.
