Looking for a way to get a free tank of gas? Ford is running a contest that will award free Shell gasoline to one of eight US cities, and you can help your hometown win.

The American carmaker is issuing a challenge to owners of its F-150 EcoBoost trucks. The winner of the contest will earn free gasoline for a year and a gas giveaway for his or her hometown.

The company selected eight drivers from eight different cities to participate in the three-part challenge.

The first part of the competition is a five-day fuel mileage challenge. Drivers will hyper-mile their trucks around town and whoever gets the best fuel mileage will win.

The second part of the competition is a simple poll. Ford fans will be able to log into the company's Facebook page and vote for their favorite drivers. The person with the most votes gets extra points towards the competition.

The final leg of the challenge is for a local community project. Contestants will come up with a goodwill project that will somehow benefit their area, and whoever gets the most volunteers for the project will win this portion of the event.

Shell is teaming up with Ford for the program, and the winning driver will get a year's worth of free gasoline. The company will also give away free gas in the winning driver's home town.

The cities in contention are: Louisville, Ky., Pittsburgh, PA., Houston, Texas, San Diego, Calif., Orlando, Fla., Denver, Colo., Kansas City, Mo. and Raleigh-Durham, N.C.

Shell will pick two gas stations in the winning city where free gasoline will be given away to all comers during a two hour and 22 minutes minute (In honor of the EcoBoost F-150's 22 MPG rating) period.

The EcoBoost engine is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that is capable of 365 horsepower. The twin turbo setup is a departure from the V8 engines that you would normally find under the hood of a Ford pickup. Still, the new F-150 is capable of best-in-class towing capacity with a 20 percent decrease in emissions.
