- An all-new, high-performance 'Vette dubbed the 427 Convertible Collector Edition will include the 7.0-liter V8 formerly only available on Z06 models.

Chevrolet recently unveiled an all-new, high-performance variant of its Corvette convertible and a unique 60th Anniversary Package that will be offered on all models. According to the automaker, the special editions are designed to mark the model's 60th anniversary and commemorate the sports car's final year in its current "C6" generation.
According to Chevrolet, the new 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition is the fastest droptop in the model's history. That's because the all-new, limited-production ?Vette includes the automaker's mighty 7.0-liter "LS7" V8, an engine previously reserved for the high-performance, coupe-only Corvette Z06. With an output of 505 horsepower and a whopping 470 pound-feet of torque, the 427 cubic-inch powerplant from which the special edition Corvette derives its name is the most powerful engine ever installed in a Corvette convertible.
Only offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, the Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition includes several other upgrades designed to increase performance in addition to its monstrous engine. Such revisions include a rear-mounted battery for improved weight distribution, lightweight machine-faced Cup wheels, and magnetic ride control, which improves handling and reduces body lean. Stylistic improvements include carbon fiber fenders borrowed from the Z06 and a carbon fiber hood originally used on the sleek Z06 Carbon Edition.
In addition to the high-performance Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition, Chevrolet will soon roll out a new special edition option package to celebrate the Corvette's 60th anniversary. Aptly dubbed the 60th Anniversary Package, the new option group will be available on all 2013 Corvette models and include an Arctic White exterior and a Blue Diamond leather interior with suede accents. Additional content includes a ZR1-style rear spoiler, gray-painted brake calipers and a host of "60th" badging that graces the sports car's wheel caps, steering wheel and headrests.
According to Chevrolet, the new Corvette models will make their public debut at the annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car auction, where the first 427 Convertible Collector Edition will be auctioned to benefit the Drive to End Hunger food relief program. We expect official pricing information closer to the on-sale date both models, which will likely be soon after the auction. A new, seventh-generation Corvette, dubbed the "C7," will likely be announced later this year.
What it means to you: For the C6's swan song, Chevrolet finally lets droptop buyers experience the wild power of the raucous Corvette Z06.
