• The Wrangler Mountain is a new special edition Wrangler for Europe
  • Highlights include unique exterior trim and off-road accessories
  • The new model will go on sale in the second quarter of 2012

Although Jeep chose this year's Geneva Auto Show to reveal three unique new models, only the eye-grabbing Wrangler Mountain is officially slated for production. According to the Jeep, the bright green SUV will feature unique badging and a host of off-road accessories when it arrives in dealerships during the second quarter of 2012.

On the outside, the Wrangler Mountain is immediately recognizable thanks to its unique exterior color. Officially dubbed "Gecko," the high-impact paint finish is a striking shade of bright green never before seen on a Wrangler. Other unique features include "Mountain" graphics on its hood, a large black hood decal, and a mineral gray front grille painted to match its high-gloss 17-inch wheels. Jeep says the Wrangler Mountain will also be available in black, white, Dozer Yellow and Deep Forest Green.

According to Jeep, the Wrangler Mountain also features several unique interior appointments to complement its distinctive exterior. The SUV's front seats, which are finished in slate gray, feature the model's "Mountain" logo embroidered just below the headrests, while tread-pattern slush mats from Mopar are also included in the cabin. Other Mopar accessories include a black fuel filler door and larger side steps for easier entry and exit.

Under the hood, the Wrangler Mountain caters to European buyers with its 2.8-liter turbodiesel motor producing 200 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. Jeep says the special edition Wrangler also offers its potent new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which is mated to a standard 5-speed automatic transmission and produces 284 horsepower and 256 pound-feet of torque.

The Wrangler Mountain also offers several standard off-road accessories, including enhanced front and rear axles designed to improve the SUV's performance on difficult trails. Jeep also says the Wrangler Mountain features its go-anywhere CommandTrac four-wheel drive system, which includes a two-speed transfer case for the most challenging off-road conditions.

While Jeep already announced that it will sell the Wrangler Mountain in Europe, the automaker has yet to confirm if the SUV will make it stateside. Whether or not Jeep does decide to sell the special edition in the US, we certainly hope the brand brings over the unique Gecko paint color, which looks surprisingly dashing on the rugged Wrangler.
Other Jeep models revealed in Geneva include a sporty, diesel-powered version of the recently redesigned Grand Cherokee and a "production-intent concept" version of the automaker's compact Compass SUV.

What it means to you: Between the Wrangler Mountain and its Geneva concept cars, Jeep is proving that it's very interested in European buyers.
