• Features soft-top construction
  • Achieved with little added weight
  • No plans for production initially

Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque has proven to be quite the success for the revered off-road brand. And when a newcomer proves to be a sales success, that typically puts it front-of-mind for concepts and special editions. For the Geneva Motor Show this year, that holds true, with Land Rover debuting a drop-top Evoque.

If one thing is for sure, it's that anyone who has seen an Evoque before will instantly recognize the new one. With the top either up or down, the convertible follows the design of the original Evoque almost verbatim. And speaking of that top, the convertible will be equipped with a soft top instead of a folding metal setup. For those of you that are worried about what that means if the car goes shiny-side-down while exploring the car's off-road ability, don't worry. The Evoque Convertible features a full Roll Over Protection System that deploys hoops to prevent passengers from getting crushed by the car in that event.

Land Rover assures us that despite being a convertible, the new Evoque retains all that makes it worthy of the badge on the hood. Terrain Response is still standard, meaning the car can react to any surface you put it on. A Meridian sound system is still part of the deal, as well, with an eight-inch touch screen as the focal point. The one thing that isn't an option, at least thus far, is to get one in five-door guise like the original. But Land Rover has been quick to point out that this is just a study, and there are no future plans to put it into production. If that changes, we'll have to see if a five-door option is back in the cards.

What it means to you: The Evoque has been a sales hit for Land Rover, so the automaker is capitalizing on that fact with a convertible version.
