After revealing several teaser images online, Ford finally pulled the cover off its revised 2013 F-Series Super Duty pickups. While the full-size heavy-duty truck is largely the same as the 2012 model, updates include a luxurious new trim level with a revised interior and exterior, and the latest version of the MyFord Touch infotainment system that's been optimized for users who are working at a job site.
The biggest news for the 2013 F-Series Super Duty is the arrival of the upscale "Platinum" trim level. Like the similarly luxurious variant of the F-150 that debuted in 2009, the Super Duty Platinum combines upscale features with pickup truck utility - and will likely carry a price premium over lesser F-Series models.
On the outside, Platinum models are distinguished by a host of new chrome accessories including door handles, mirrors and running boards, as well as a silver-finished tailgate and unique 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the pickup offers high-quality woodgrain trim, premium leather seating, and a heated steering wheel wrapped in leather.
"The F-Series Super Duty Platinum is the latest expression of Built Ford Tough truck luxury," said Brian Rathsburg, F-Series Super Duty marketing manager. "It has a distinct appearance and a long list of fe*atures to deliver a superior experience. Along with that, it has all of the capability F-Series trucks are famous for."
Exclusive to the 2013 F-Series Super Duty is a revised version of the automaker's MyFord Touch infotainment system, which was optimized for use in the full-size truck. Ford says the modified system includes the ability to be handled by a user wearing thick gloves and a wide, 8-inch display screen that provides a clear view behind the truck when in reverse to help line up trailers with its tow hitch.
Although Ford has not yet announced pricing for the 2013 F-Series Super Duty, we expect most models will see only modest increases compared to last year. The Crew Cab-only Platinum, however, will likely top the pickup's range with a base price of around $50,000 when it goes on sale later this year.
