Audi's "#WantAnR8" campaign on Twitter is back. It started last year when a D.C. area woman used the hashtag and Audi gave her an R8 supercar for the day. Now, Audi is launching the contest again, inviting Twitter users to send messages explaining why they'd like to drive an R8 for a chance to win some time behind the wheel of the exotic sports car.

Coinciding with the launch of the "#WantAnR8" campaign is the debut of a new advertising spot called "Once Upon a Time." Premiering on television March 26, the 30-second ad is already available on Audi's YouTube channel. It tells the first "first chapter" of the model's short history in storybook style, potentially providing inspiration for "WantAnR8" entries.

To participate, Twitter users simply use the hashtag in a tweet explaining why they'd like to drive an R8. Photos or videos may be included. The contest runs from now through October 29, with two winners selected in each of four entry periods. Winners will be selected based on creativity, quality of any multimedia included, and quality of the conversation sparked by the submission.

The eight lucky Audi fans that win over the judges will get their choice of driving the R8 on the road or a track. Those who prefer to cruise around town for the day can opt for an R8 delivered to their door. Winners with a sportier inclination can choose to travel to the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California for the one-day Audi Sportscar Experience featuring the R8.

While the R8 is clearly a niche vehicle and not a huge volume seller for Audi, the "#WantAnR8" Twitter campaign gives the automaker an opportunity to connect with consumers around an exciting and exclusive vehicle that many of its fans aspire to own. Audi's campaign - and social media contests generally - offer brand fans not only a way to engage with the people behind their favorite products, but also a chance to be rewarded for their interest and input. It's a win-win, especially for those who will soon find themselves in an R8 for the day.
