- New BMW M6 convertible will arrive at New York Auto Show
- Droptop M6 features a 560-horsepower twin-turbo V8
- Performance convertible also includes styling enhancements
BMW will show an all-new convertible version of its high-performance M6 at next week's New York International Auto Show. The automaker recently released photos of the sporty convertible, which will feature the same twin-turbo V8 as the recently announced M6 coupe.
On the outside, the M6 convertible receives only subtle upgrades over the recently redesigned 6 Series. Changes include more aggressive front and rear bumpers with LED lighting, wider fenders, unique alloy wheels and a smattering of "M" badges inconspicuously placed throughout the exterior. The M6 convertible's interior features similarly understated changes that range from tightly-bolstered sport seats to a unique three-spoke steering wheel and carbon fiber accents throughout.
For enthusiasts, the main attraction is under the hood. That's because the M6 convertible features a muscular 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 capable of producing 500 lb-ft of torque and a stunning 560 horsepower. Not surprisingly, the powerful engine transforms the large convertible into an athletic sports car, propelling it from 0-6 mpg in just 4.2 seconds. Like its predecessor, the M6 convertible is only available with BMW's seven-speed "DCT" dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The M6 convertible also includes a host of innovative new technology features, most of which made their debut earlier this year at the Geneva Auto Show in new M6 coupe. According to BMW, technologically advanced features include the latest version of the automaker's iDrive infotainment system, an "M" head-up display that projects the car's stats on the windshield, and the enthusiast-oriented Dynamic Damper Control system, which allows drivers to dial in their suspension settings based on their driving style.
BMW's newest convertible provides yet another option for buyers interested in the growing 6 Series lineup. In addition to the upcoming M6 coupe, the M6 convertible joins the new 6 Series coupe and convertible, which debuted as 2012 models with a choice of 6- or 8-cylinder engines. The 6 Series line will also soon include a 4-door sedan, dubbed the 6 Series Gran Coupe, which goes on sale nationwide this summer.
We'll be on hand in New York to provide more information about the M6 convertible as it rolls on stage for its global debut.
