- New special edition Challenger dubbed Rallye Redline
- Includes features to improve performance, but retains V6 engine
- Interior and exterior also get sporty tweaks
A new version of the sporty Dodge Challenger coupe combines V6 power with performance upgrades and revised styling. The automaker recently released details on the sporty Challenger Rallye Redline, which merges the brand's highly praised Pentastar V6 engine with a host of extra features.
The most noticeable upgrades to the Challenger Rallye Redline are on the sporty coupe's exterior. Changes from the Challenger SXT Plus include a large red stripe flanked by two smaller ones, a new rear spoiler and unique 20-inch, gray-painted alloy wheels that include subtle - yet striking - red stripes around the rims.
Styling enhancements continue inside the Challenger Rallye Redline. In addition to a retro-themed automatic transmission shift lever, the Challenger Rallye Redline includes available "Radar Red" leather seats. For buyers interested in something a little more understated, Chrysler says the Rallye Redline's interior is also available in a traditional dark slate gray.
But upgrades over the standard V6 Challenger are more than just cosmetic. While the Rallye Redline puts out the same 305 horsepower as other Pentastar-equipped models and is only offered with a 5-speed automatic transmission, Chrysler made every effort to improve the coupe's performance through the corners. According to the automaker, the special edition model features a Super Sport Group package that adds firmer front and rear shocks, larger sway bars, wider tires, bigger brakes and quicker steering - each designed to improve the car's handling for use on the occasional track day.
The Challenger Rallye Redline was revealed earlier this month at the so-called Spring Festival, a gathering of enthusiasts dedicated to Chrysler's full-size "LX" platform cars - the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Challenger, Charger and Magnum. According to Chrysler, the special edition coupe will go on sale in April with a base price of $29,670 including destination.
What it means to you: The new Challenger Rallye Redline combines the fuel economy and lower cost of Chrysler's acclaimed new Pentastar V6 with performance upgrades generally reserved for V8 models.
