• Upscale Inscription model includes interior upgrades
  • Inscription trim also adds three new option choices
  • Sales start soon, with prices beginning around $45,000

The upscale Volvo XC60 crossover will soon get a new extra luxurious trim level. Officially dubbed "Inscription," the new trim features some major changes to the SUV's interior and exterior designed to give buyers a more luxurious experience.

Most of the XC60 Inscription's revisions are on the inside, where Volvo upgraded the materials to increase comfort. The biggest change comes to the crossover's seats, which were re-trimmed in fine leather offered in four distinct colors: marble white, Toscana tan, off black and soft beige. Other items - including the XC60's dashboard and center console - are available in off black or sandstone beige, allowing buyers to order the SUV in several handsome two-tone color combinations.

In addition to the improved seats, the XC60 Inscription adds several other upscale touches throughout the interior. Major enhancements include new door panels colored to match the SUV's upholstery, electronically adjustable lumbar support for the front seats, a center console armrest with leather stitching and headrests trimmed with the "Inscription" logo. Volvo also says the "Inscription" logo will also appear on the SUV's door sills, which are seen when opening any of its doors.

The Inscription trim also adds three new options not available on other XC60 models. According to Volvo, these new options include a charcoal headliner, a unique Electric Silver exterior finish and upgraded 20-inch alloy wheels in place of the XC60's standard 17-inch or optional 18-inch alloys.

The XC60 is also available in sporty T6 R-Design trim, which includes a range of performance-oriented upgrades including 20-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights linked to the steering, and an aggressive body kit. Both trim levels are designed to boost the crossover's appeal beyond mainstream car shoppers.

Volvo believes the new Inscription trim will help solidify the XC60's status as one of the automaker's best-selling vehicles. Although Volvo has yet to reveal pricing or a U.S. release date for the XC60 Inscription, we expect it to arrive in dealerships very soon with a base price of around $45,000.

What it means to you: If you're considering a Lexus, Mercedes or BMW SUV, Volvo hopes the added luxury of its new XC60's new Inscription package will tempt you away.
