• Graphics for the 2013 Dart sedan are coming from Mopar aftermarket division
  • The graphics are dealer-installed vinyl decals
  • 16 different styles are available

Car shoppers interested in a Dodge Dart will be able to add an individual touch to the new sedan. That's because parent company Chrysler's aftermarket Mopar division has rolled out a wide range of graphics specifically designed to help Dart buyers stand out from the rest of the compact-sedan crowd.

According to Chrysler, its Mopar parts and accessories division will soon release a lineup of 16 custom graphics packages for the 2013 Dart. While pricing has not yet been announced, Mopar did release photos of the graphics. Among the choices are dual racing stripes down the sedan's roof and hood, black and red stripes down both sides and dark coloring on the Dart's hood and trunk lid.

The graphics will almost surely resemble a factory paint finish to most onlookers, but they are actually vinyl decals that can be installed by Dodge dealerships. That lets buyers remove the graphics at any time or replace them with new designs if they tire of the original choices. Like all Mopar parts, the graphics are expected to be covered under the aftermarket brand's 12-month basic warranty, meaning premature peeling or fading will likely lead to full replacement.

Although dealer-installed graphics remain unusual among today's new vehicles, factory-backed personalization has become increasingly popular over the last several years, and especially in the Dart's compact segment. Kia and youth-oriented Toyota brand Scion are also well known for their customization options, which range from unique wheels to upgraded sound systems and flashy colors.

The new graphics will likely help to increase the Dart's appeal among budget-minded car shoppers interested in a unique new model. Available with six trim levels and three engine choices, the Dart went on sale last month with a starting price of around $17,000. Rated at up to 39 mpg in highway driving, the Dart will replace the compact Caliber hatchback and competes with popular compact sedans like the Honda Civic, the Ford Focus and the Toyota Corolla.

What it means to you: Although a new Dart is already likely to stand out on the road, Mopar's new graphics will help it become even more unique.
