Dodge introduced a new styling package for its V8-powered Challenger muscle car at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. The 2013 Dodge Challenger R/T Redline is distinguished by body-side striping in red and graphite and unique 20-inch black chrome wheels, outlined with a red-painted lip. Four exterior colors -- Billet Silver, Granite Crystal, Bright White and Pitch Black -- are available with the package, which can be added to Challenger R/T or R/T Plus models.
The Challenger R/T Redline is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 that can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. With the manual, the Hemi V8 engine produces 375 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque thanks to a performance-tuned exhaust. Equipped with the automatic, maximum output is 372 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Paddle shifters allow the driver to select gears manually, while a cylinder deactivation system in the automatic-equipped Challenger R/T improves fuel economy when less power is needed.
With either the manual or the automatic transmissions, the Challenger R/T Redline includes a Mopar T-handle shift lever, bright metallic pedals and remote engine start. R/T trim models get a USB jack, automatic headlights and the Uconnect Voice Command system with Bluetooth are all included. R/T Plus models also get Boston Acoustics sound, leather seats, heated front seats and rear parking sensors.
For improved handling, Dodge offers its Super Track Pak on the Challenger R/T Redline. It wraps the 20-inch wheels in Goodyear Eagle F1 3-season performance tires and includes a lowered suspension and performance brake linings.
Although its arrival is a few months away, authorized dealers are already accepting orders for the 2013 Dodge Challenger R/T Redline. The Redline package costs $1,995. Pricing for the Challenger R/T Redline starts at $33,985, not including a $995 destination charge.
What it means to you: Like the retro muscle car design of the Challenger but want a more distinctive look and extra power? Consider the Redline package, which helps the Challenger R/T stand out with unique 20-inch wheels and body-side striping.
