The new-edition Volkswagen Golf has already been on sale in Europe and it won?t be until 2014 before Americans will be able to get behind the wheel of VW?s seventh-generation hatchback.

The base model will have a new engine, a 1.8-liter turbocharged inline 4 replacing the previous 2.5-liter 5-cylinder. The Golf that started the whole hot hatchback movement some 30 years ago, the GTI, will return with an improved 2-liter, turbocharged 4-banger. The clean diesel TDI Golf is expected to lure car buyers who want the fuel-efficiency and low maintenance benefits of its all-new turbocharged 2-liter, EA288 engine.

The 2015 Golfs are larger inside and out and will be equipped with several new pieces of safety technology, such as a collision avoidance system and lane departure warning. Infotainment technology has also been expanded in the new Golf including an improved navigation system.

The 2015 Volkswagen Golf is sure to maintain the popularity the previous six generations of this venerable German hatchback has enjoyed.
