Chevy introduced the first Z28 Camaro in 1967 and it was a hot seller, right up until the Camaro and the Z28 disappeared at the end of 2002. Now, the new-generation Camaro goes into its fifth year of production and in 2014 will bring back one of the most evocative model designations ever applied to a muscle car: Z28.

Three areas of performance technology have given the new Z28 true racecar athleticism: a 7-liter, 500-horsepower, LS7 V8 stuffed with upgraded, go-fast components; superb handling due to extensive chassis tuning; and lower weight, accomplished by shaving pounds from numerous parts, such as wheels and window glass. The 2014 Z28 weights 300-pounds less than the 580-horsepower Camaro ZL1 and in testing, ran lap times three seconds faster than its more powerful counterpart.

With only a 6-speed manual transmission available and air conditioning offered only as an option, the 2014 Camaro Z28 is expected to see plenty of track time across the country as soon as they begin showing up at Chevy dealers next spring.
