- 335i M Performance Pack adds 20 horsepower, up to 32 lb-ft
- Only offered on 2012 and 2013 335i sedans
- Costs $1,100 plus installation
A new factory upgrade lets BMW 335i owners add power and torque without voiding their warranties. The BMW 335i M Performance Pack improves the performance of all 2012 and 2013 335i sedan models, regardless of transmission or drivetrain.
According to BMW, the new performance pack adds 20 hp and 32 lb-ft of torque to an automatic 335i sedan. For drivers who have a manual transmission, the torque increase is limited to 17 lb-ft. Those numbers are up from the 335i's already muscular 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque.
BMW says the M Performance Pack will cost $1,100 plus installation, which can be done at any BMW dealer. To install the upgrade, dealers replace a 335i's electronic control unit and air intake system with parts from the M division. Dealers also will change the throttle calibration, which improves acceleration. Cars equipped with the performance pack will receive unique exterior decals and an enhanced exhaust note.
The M Performance pack will be available on all 335i sedans, including the all-wheel-drive xDrive model. BMW says 0-to-60 sprints are two-tenths of a second quicker than a regular model. That drops the 335i sedan's 0-to-60 time to well below five seconds. Better yet, 50- to 75-miles-per-hour acceleration drops by a half-second.
Enthusiasts will also be happy to learn the performance pack doesn't void a 335i's warranty. If installed new, the upgrade is covered under the original factory warranty. Shoppers who install the performance pack later get a 2-year, unlimited-mile warranty on its components. The 335i's fuel economy rating is also unaffected, remaining at 19 miles per gallon city and 28 mpg highway with the 8-speed automatic.
The BMW 335i M Performance Pack is available to order now at any BMW dealership. BMW hasn't announced if it plans to create a similar upgrade for any other models, such as the 4-cylinder 320i and 328i or the upcoming 4-Series.
What it means to you: For just $1,100 extra, the M Performance Pack builds on the current 335i's already stellar performance.
