Brace yourself, Corolla fans: The teasing has begun. Although the redesigned 2014 Toyota Corolla won't be officially unveiled until June 6 in Los Angeles, Toyota just couldn't resist letting this demure little photo leak out. It appeared on Toyota's official Facebook page on May 21 and, as of this writing, it remains the only photo of the production-ready 2014 Corolla.

The camera angle here is clearly no accident, as it puts the spotlight on that red "S," signifying the sportiest Corolla model. Garden-variety 2014 Corollas, it's safe to say, won't have rear spoilers. Still, we're encouraged to see that the taillights strongly resemble those of the in-your-face Toyota Furia concept from this year's Detroit Auto Show. Word in Detroit was that the overtly sporty Furia foreshadowed the new Corolla, and those taillights are enough to make us believers. Here's hoping other elements of the Furia's dynamic styling make it to production, as well.

Unfortunately, an earlier leak [http://blog.caranddriver.com/details-of-2014-toyota-corollas-order-guide-posted-on-dealer-website/] suggests the Corolla will continue to use a rudimentary 4-speed automatic transmission in base trims, but there's good news as well: Higher trims will likely receive a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that maximizes fuel economy and eliminates shift shock. If you prefer to shift for yourself, there also should be a 6-speed manual transmission in the mix. Power will continue to flow from a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, but thanks to mechanical tweaks, modest output gains are expected.

In keeping with other recently redesigned Toyota products, we further expect a thoroughly revised interior with generous technology features.

The official debut of the 2014 Toyota Corolla on June 6 will be a pretty big deal. We'll have all the details for you as Toyota presents its overhauled global best-seller to journalists and Corolla enthusiasts in the city of Angels.
