• Vincentric awards look at cost of ownership
  • Awards focus on fleet vehicles
  • GM earned nine awards, more than any other automaker

General Motors recently earned nine Vincentric Best Fleet Value in America awards, which highlight the top models in each segment for fleet operators.

Of the nine GM models to win Vincentric awards, four were Buicks. The newly released Encore crossover won the base 4-door utility segment, while the larger Enclave topped the convenience 4-door utility class. The LaCrosse and Verano also topped the large and midsize premium sedan segments, respectively.

Chevrolet and sister brand GMC also did well in Vincentric's fleet value awards. The Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana earned top honors in both full-size cargo van and passenger van segments. And the heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 pickups also won awards. Finally, the new Chevrolet Spark took home top honors in the micro segment.

With nine awards, General Motors won more Vincentric titles than any other manufacturer. The awards are designed with value in mind. They consider life-cycle costs, which are important for fleet operators buying large quantities of new cars.

"The Vincentric Awards are a great yearly measurement for fleet vehicles," said Ed Peper, GM's U.S. vice president of fleet and commercial sales. "This year demonstrates GM's strength in not only the truck and van segments, but across our product portfolio.

Vincentric determines winners by analyzing several cost metrics. Such factors include depreciation, fees, taxes, financing costs and projected maintenance costs. Vincentric has been giving the awards for eight years.

Several other brands performed well in this year's Vincentric awards. Toyota and Ford followed just behind GM with eight awards. Other multiple winners included Chrysler, with four awards spread between its Dodge and Jeep brands, and Nissan, with two awards. Not surprisingly, one such award went to Nissan's cost-effective Leaf hatchback, which won the electric category.

What it means to you: While Vincentric's awards are aimed at fleet shoppers, they can give retail customers a good idea of which cars will be cheap to own.
