• The Infiniti G37 will remain in production through 2015
  • It will be sold at Infiniti dealers alongside the new Q50
  • The G37 will be priced well below the Q50

If you're interested in a premium sport sedan, you probably know that Infiniti will soon replace the G37 with an all-new model called the Q50. But the automaker recently announced that isn't entirely true, revealing that it will keep making the G37 through at least 2015.

Infiniti won't delay the Q50 by keeping the G37 around. Instead, the automaker says it will sell the G37 alongside the Q50 for at least the next two years, though it will stop advertising the G37. Of course, this may leave you asking why you should consider the G37 if the all-new Q50 is at dealerships.

The answer is simple: The G37 will be much less expensive. While the new Q50 will start around $37,500 -- or roughly the same price as today's G37 -- the 2014 G37 will start around $33,500. That gives the G37 a new, entry-level price far below the current Q50.

It also gives Infiniti a competitor against the Mercedes C250 and BMW 328i. While these models have long dominated the "entry-level" premium sport sedan segment, Infiniti hopes the more powerful G37 -- even with its aging design -- will give shoppers a new option now that its price has been substantially cut.

For those who won't be swayed by the cheaper G37, the Q50 is already arriving at dealers. While the first cars will likely go to shoppers who preordered the sedan, expect more to arrive over the next few months. The Q50 Hybrid, priced from around $44,500, will arrive soon after the gas-powered Q50.

While Infiniti's decision to keep selling the G37 after the Q50's debut is unusual, it isn't totally unheard of. Several automakers have taken similar paths, largely for the same reason as Infiniti: to give interested shoppers a chance to buy a low-priced version of an outgoing model.

What it means to you: The popular Infiniti G37 name isn't going away just yet.
