• Infiniti Q30 Concept previews upcoming compact Infiniti
  • Concept features sculpted lines, sleek look
  • Q30 Concept will debut in September at Frankfurt Motor Show

Infiniti has released teaser images of an all-new concept car. The new Q30 Concept previews an upcoming compact luxury car, showing Infiniti's intent to branch out into other markets.

In preview images, the Q30 displays a flat, sculpted design with many contours down both sides. A large front grille and "jagged" C-pillar are the car's only distinctly Infiniti design elements, while narrow headlights combine with a lack of mirrors and door handles complete the car's sleek, streamlined look.

While the Q30 Concept won't see production in its current form, something similar probably will. That means Infiniti will be branching into an entirely new segment: the compact luxury car. Current compact luxury models include the Audi A3, the BMW 1 Series and the Buick Verano.

"This Infiniti Q30 Concept is a prelude to the product portfolio expansion which underpins our aggressive global growth strategy," said Johan de Nysschen, Infiniti's global president. "In our quest to appeal to the modern, young-minded premium customer, the Infiniti Q30 Concept has a distinctive style and reaches new levels of product quality."

While the teaser images give a good idea of what the Q30 Concept will look like, the finalized concept car will appear at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Though Infiniti has not announced when a production car will arrive, we expect it to follow closely behind the concept. A production-ready Q30 could reach Infiniti dealers as early as 2015.

The Q30 marks yet another choice in the growing compact luxury car segment. In addition to models such as the A3, 1 Series and Verano, Mercedes will soon debut its all-new CLA -- a compact sedan with a base price of around $30,000. That means Infiniti will face stiff competition when a production-ready Q30 reaches dealers.

If you're interested in the Q30, check back for more updates soon, as we'll have further details at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

What it means to you: The Infiniti Q30 Concept signals a new direction for Infiniti -- but don't expect to buy one before 2015.
