• 2014 Camaro convertible revealed ahead of Frankfurt
  • Boasts similar updates to coupe, including minor styling changes
  • Latest Camaro convertible will be on sale later this year

Chevrolet has officially pulled the cover off the latest Chevrolet Camaro convertible. While the updated 2014 Chevrolet Camaro coupe is already on sale, the convertible will be revealed at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Outside, the Camaro convertible includes no great surprises. The sporty drop-top borrows most of its revisions from the Camaro coupe, which is now on sale. Updates include a revised front bumper, a narrower grille and updated taillights.

Inside, the 2014 Camaro convertible makes the same major change as the latest coupe. It gains Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system, which features a 7-inch color touchscreen mounted on the car's center control stack. MyLink includes entertainment, available navigation and other functions. It also allows drivers to use certain apps, such as Pandora Internet Radio.

Beyond the subtle exterior revisions and the addition of MyLink, the 2014 Camaro convertible doesn't include any other major changes. The powertrain lineup is the same, with a 323-horsepower V6 standard and a choice of V8 powerplants -- including a 426-hp SS model and a 580-hp ZR1 -- carrying over for the 2014 model year. While the coupe adds a new track-focused Z/28 trim for 2014, that model won't be offered as a convertible.

Chevrolet says it will show the 2014 Camaro convertible in Frankfurt only a few weeks before the car goes on sale. That means the model should reach dealers by the end of the year.

While changes to the Camaro for the 2014 model year aren't huge, they're still exciting for Camaro fans. Such enthusiasts have appreciated frequent upgrades to the Camaro since the retro sports car arrived for the 2010 model year.

Other updates include various special editions, increased engine power, a high-performance ZL1 model and the convertible itself, which went on sale for the 2011 model year.

What it means to you: Updates to the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro convertible keep the retro sports car's lineup fresh for another model year.
