• Specially designed Brembo brake system
  • Track-tuned suspension
  • Lightweight wheels and carbon aerodynamic elements

The SRT Viper is no slouch when it comes to performance. The latest sports car from Chrysler's Street and Racing Technology group packs 640 horsepower from its big, 10-cylinder engine. The Viper is lightweight and built to handle twisty roads, too, with wide, sticky tires, powerful brakes and a sporty suspension. Still, the 2014 SRT Viper can be made even more track-ready with the new TA package. It includes upgraded brakes, suspension, wheels and aerodynamics to improve Viper's handling.

SRT worked with Brembo to develop a new brake system for the Viper TA that better handles and dissipates heat. Heat is the biggest enemy of proper brake performance, especially in track conditions that generate extreme conditions for braking components. The special Brembo calipers for the Viper TA are finished in black and painted with a TA orange Viper logo.

Suspension is also upgraded, specially tuned for track performance. The 2-mode Bilstein DampTronic system is stiffer than the stock setup, with a smaller spread between the two settings. Springs and stabilizer bars are also upgraded for the track, and a carbon fiber structural brace replaces the standard aluminum component under the hood.

The Viper TA also gets lightweight Sidewinder II wheels, reducing unsprung weight to improve handling. TA buyers can choose the same Pirelli P Zero tires found on the standard Viper or specify P Zero Corsa racing tires for even more traction. Sidewinder II wheels for the TA are finished in matte black.

Aerodynamics are also important to handling. To that end, the 2014 SRT Viper TA gets a carbon splitter at the nose and, at the tail, a carbon spoiler. A carbon appliqué at the rear does nothing to improve performance but certainly contributes to the racy look.

TA stands for Time Attack, indicating that this Viper is really meant for turning quick times on twisty road courses. If track days are your thing, the 2014 SRT Viper TA may be your sports car of choice. Otherwise, the standard Viper -- already a hugely powerful and relatively nimble machine -- should provide all the excitement you need.

What it means to you: The 2014 Viper TA doesn't get a bump in output to improve its performance. Instead, it gets brake, suspension and aerodynamic upgrades to bolster handling and improve lap times.
