- Juke NISMO RS coming to LA Auto Show
- Will likely slot above the Juke NISMO in Nissan's lineup
- Nissan hasn't revealed any other details
Nissan will show off an all-new, sporty version of its unusual Juke crossover at next month's Los Angeles Auto Show. Dubbed the Nissan Juke NISMO RS, the new model is expected to slot above the already sporty Juke NISMO in Nissan's lineup.
While Nissan has yet to confirm details about the Juke NISMO RS, rumors are swirling. More power? Suspension tuning? It's not clear. Nissan made its Juke-related performance intentions obvious last year, when it released a limited-production Juke R with a 545-horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine lifted from the GT-R sports car.
The Nissan Juke NISMO RS is unlikely to reach those performance numbers, but we wouldn't be surprised if it gets a power boost. The reason is that Nissan already sells the Juke NISMO, which offers a few sporty styling upgrades and suspension enhancements. The RS designation typically signifies added horsepower and other sporty bits.
Plus, a sporty version of the Nissan Juke could use a little extra power. The standard Juke uses a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder that makes only 188 hp. The result is 0-to-60 miles per hour in around 7.2 seconds, which puts the Juke somewhere in the middle of the small crossover pack. By comparison, Toyota's outgoing RAV4 could reach 60 mph from a standing stop in just over six seconds when equipped with its available V6.
Regardless of Nissan's plans for the Juke NISMO RS, we're excited to see it. The Juke was released for the 2011 model year to surprisingly strong sales -- especially considering its unusual styling. It's the smallest crossover in Nissan's lineup, which also includes the Rogue, the Murano and the Pathfinder.
What it means to you: If you like some "sport" in your sport-utility, consider waiting to see what the Nissan Juke NISMO RS has to offer.
