• Jaguar F-Type Coupe to debut at LA Auto Show
  • Teaser image shows sleek, hardtop body style
  • On sale this spring; engines and pricing not announced

Jaguar has officially released its first image of the upcoming F-Type Coupe. The brand showed a teaser image of the sports car ahead of this year's Los Angeles Auto Show, where it will unveil the F-Type Coupe in production form.

While the teaser image is taken from the top down, it provides a good look at what we can expect from the F-Type Coupe. Think of the standard F-Type's aggressive, muscular styling, except with a hardtop rather than a folding roof, and you have an idea of the latest Jag. The teaser image also reveals that the roofline narrows in back, giving the car an especially sleek look.

In terms of powertrain, Jaguar hasn't announced what to expect. But we think the F-Type Coupe will offer the same engines available in the convertible. That means there will be a 340-horsepower V6, a 380-hp V6 and, in top-level F-Type V8 S guise, a 495-hp supercharged V8.

The F-Type Coupe may also offer an engine that's foreign to the Jaguar brand: a 4-cylinder. Some think base-level versions of the car will include the same 240-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder as the Range Rover Evoque. If those rumors are true, the 4-cylinder could be offered at a lower price than V6 and V8 powerplants, which would help Jaguar increase sales.

Speaking of price, the F-Type Coupe will likely be a little cheaper than today's drop-top model. While current starting prices range from $70,000 with shipping for the base-level F-Type to nearly $95,000 for the F-Type V8 S, we'd expect to see the coupe priced a few thousand dollars below those figures.

What it means to you: The Jaguar F-Type Coupe will bring a little more performance to the brand's lineup, which Jaguar hopes will help attract a new range of younger buyers.
