Not that long ago, the idea of Kia producing a luxury car that could compete with the BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class would have been considered crazy. Well, that's not the case anymore. Kia is debuting the rear-wheel-drive K900 luxury sedan here in LA, and it has a lot going on.
The exterior design is classy and contemporary, and it doesn't look like a low-rent version of its upscale competition. Inside the 2015 Kia K900, the space, comfort and impressive innovative features create a luxury feel.
The head-up display is standard. The animated instruments are vivid and easy to read. And the central control dial is as good as the control dials of its competitors.
Another example of inventive K900 technology is the navigation system that warns of traffic jams, speed traps and even speed bumps.
Power comes from a 311-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 or a 420-hp 5-liter V8, working together with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Considering its humble beginnings, it's remarkable that Kia has produced a luxury car that can be compared favorably with the best Europe and the U.S. has to offer, and with a base price starting between $50,000 and $70,000. The 2015 Kia K900 is truly breaking new ground for the automaker.
