- Porsche to offer new Cayenne Platinum Edition
- Platinum offers many standard features, exterior upgrades
- Pricing starts at $64,295 for V6; $67,895 for Diesel
Porsche has announced an all-new, feature-packed trim level of its midsize Cayenne SUV. Based on the entry-level Cayenne V6 or Cayenne Diesel, the newly announced 2014 Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition offers a long list of equipment that goes above and beyond the Cayenne's typical standard fare.
On the outside, the Cayenne Platinum Edition offers a few updates to the regular Cayenne. Such items include a unique Carrera White Metallic paint color, colored wheel crests and a few trim pieces -- including parts of the front grille -- painted in silver.
But the biggest updates to the latest Cayenne trim level are inside the cabin. That's where shoppers will find a long list of standard equipment, including parking sensors, a navigation system, heated front seats, a power sunroof, a Bose surround system and Porsche's Power Steering Plus feature, which assists with low-speed steering. The Cayenne Platinum also adds bi-xenon headlights.
That's a lot of new features, and they don't come cheap. Porsche says drivers who choose a gasoline-powered Cayenne V6 Platinum Edition will pay $64,295 with shipping -- an increase of nearly $14,000 over a base-level Cayenne V6. The Cayenne V6 uses a 300-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 and offers drivers the choice between a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic transmission. We expect the Platinum Edition will only come with the automatic.
Drivers looking for better gas mileage can also get a diesel-powered Cayenne Platinum Edition for $67,895 with shipping. Like all Cayenne Diesel models, it uses a 240-hp 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 and includes a standard 8-speed automatic. Fuel economy for the Cayenne Diesel stands at 20 miles per gallon in the city and 29 mpg highway -- an increase of 3 mpg city and 6 mpg hwy over the standard Cayenne V6.
According to Porsche, the Cayenne Platinum is on sale now, though the first deliveries aren't scheduled until January.
What it means to you: The 2014 Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition might not be cheap, but it offers a better deal than a regular Cayenne V6 or Cayenne Diesel equipped with the same options.
