- Debut of 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
- Powertrain, chassis and aero tweaks for high performance
- One of four new performance cars for 2014
Chevrolet announced its high-performance Z06 version of the new C7 Corvette will debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show. Details are scant, but the automaker released a teaser photo of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and called it "the most track-capable Corvette ever." Chevy said the Z06 will include performance-focused upgrades to the drivetrain, chassis and aerodynamics to improve performance over the already impressive Corvette Stingray.
The only official photo of the new Z06 shows a small area of the car's left side, including part of the front left wheel and driver's door. An aero element fitted to the rocker panel appears to be carbon fiber. The front wheel is finished in a dark gray and wrapped in high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport Cup rubber.
Chevrolet already offers performance upgrades for the Corvette Stingray. A performance exhaust system boosts output by 5 horsepower and 5 lb-ft torque for total output of 460 hp and 465 lb-ft. The Z51 Performance Package adds bigger wheels and stickier tires, bigger brakes, more aggressive suspension tuning and an electronic limited-slip differential, among other upgrades. Expect the Z06 to build on these upgrades with even more power along with further handling and braking improvements.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is one of four new Chevy performance cars for 2014. Both the 2014 Chevy SS, a high-performance, V8-powered rear-wheel-drive sedan, and 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible are already available. Arriving next year will be the 2014 Camaro Z/28 and the new Z06.
Chevy has not yet announced an on-sale date for the new 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, but word may arrive upon its debut in Detroit.
